We recently decided that, as part of the deal when working here, any member of Team Cubby who has their birthday on a weekday will automatically get that day off.

Not as leave, not with any lieu attached or hours to make up, just off. For free.

Because, as Cubby’s founder Ross reasoned “well I don’t want to work on my birthday, so I’m not going to. And neither should anyone else.”

This may seem a relatively small thing to be writing a news item about, but it is very us. There are lots of ways to run a business, and let’s face it, the way the world is today, lots of employers are demanding way more than their pound of flesh.

But monstering staff doesn’t work.

Studies show that reducing working hours leads to increased productivity, reduced burnout and increased wellbeing (and the opposite for over working)

And there is a business benefit to being fresher, more motivated and just ready to bring Cubby Studio energy to all of our client interactions.

None of which was really in our thoughts when we made the decision. But we do say that we are proud that we treat our clients like we treat our friends - and we treat our friends like we treat our team.

It is just our way, and we are pretty proud of it.
