FULL BRAND REFRESH + DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Cogent Skills came to us with a challenge: their brand needed a refresh - but not a total reinvention. They wanted something modern, energised and digital-first, but not so far removed from their existing identity that it would scare their customers.

The Cogent logo had been around for a while, evolving slightly over the years but in need of some love and attention.

Our mission was clear: refine, refresh, and revitalise - without losing the essence of Cogent. 

We began with a comprehensive brand audit, assessing their existing visual identity, messaging, and digital presence.

The Big Idea 

 

We created a number of logo options to assess, before landing on an icon that just felt right. 

The new logo is a fusion of the letter ‘C’ (a nod to the old brand, as promised) with microscope or telescope lenses - illustrating precision, focus, and Cogent’s expertise in science, technology, and education.

It symbolises the amplification of skills and knowledge, reinforcing Cogent's status as an organisation that helps upskill the workforce.

Bringing it all together

A Digital-First Brand

We introduced a bold RGB colour palette for a vibrant, digital-first identity, while all brand imagery was designed to work seamlessly with stock photography, ensuring a professional yet dynamic feel.

Beyond visuals, we worked with Cogent's web developers to translate the new brand seamlessly into their digital presence.

And we didn’t stop there.

We also extended the new branding across Cogent’s sub-brands including nuclear, education, science, and oil & gas, ensuring a cohesive and scalable system,

Beyond that, we crafted a comprehensive brand kit, including:

Brand guidelines – Clear rules for consistency across all communications
Brand tone of voice – Defining how Cogent speak to their audience
Glossary of terms – A handy reference for key language to use (and avoid)
Writing style guide – Best practices for clear, engaging content

And because no brand refresh is complete without striking presentation materials, we created an in-depth PowerPoint toolkit - including an interactive tutorial on advanced transitions and animations.
